Scouting in Healthcare: User Wellbeing through Services Innovation Discovery
Instructor: Prof. Dr. Spanjol
Assistant: Alessandra Gessl
What is this course about?
This course poses the question "How can healthcare providers and companies understand the phenomenon of healthcare consumer innovativeness?"
Innovativeness by consumers in the healthcare domain is highly relevant to companies operating in this domain, as healthcare is coproduced and consumers and patients are constantly developing new and unique solutions to advance their wellbeing. With increasing complexity in both treatments and lived experiences, healthcare consumers are often left less than satisfied by standard, population health driven treatments and solutions. As a result, patients create and develop solutions, sometimes even taking them to market and often creating or participating in communities for support and sharing learnings.
We will be focusing on the above-discussed dynamics through a focus on one of the following challenges (subject to change):
- Increasing patient empowerment
- Coping with complexity
- Overcoming stigma
- Fostering adherence
- Achieving universality
What are emerging consumer-led innovations in these five challenge domains? What underlying needs are driving this innovativeness? What are emerging insights regarding healthcare consumer innovativeness across these five challenge domains?
How is this course conducted?
Students will work in teams to identify dynamics, innovations, and insights. Teams will interact with partner companies. The course will be held in English.
